What is taboo?
A taboo is an activity or behaviour that is forbidden, prohibited or otherwise, outside of what is considered acceptable in society. Taboos are often grounded in morality, and can also be linked to a culture or religion, for example, there are cultures which prohibit marriage or sexual relations between members of the family with close blood ties. In bygone historical times, marriage between first cousins, and other close family members, was not discouraged.
