HPV is globally the most common sexually transmitted infection. It sometimes goes away by itself, and there are often no symptoms. HPV and herpes are not related but are sometimes confused as both can be sexually transmitted.

Many people do not develop HPV symptoms, but if there are any, they manifest as genital warts, and also in the area around the anus.
